About Us

Who Are We?

The Idaho STAR Motorcycle Safety Program was created in 1994 and began rider training in 1996. STAR is an Idaho Division of Career-Technical Education (CTE) program and is accredited by the State Motorcycle Safety Association (SMSA).  The College of Southern Idaho serves as STAR's fiscal agent.

What is STAR?

STAR stands for Skills Training Advantage for Riders, for we believe there are real advantages in being properly trained and prepared to ride. Idaho STAR training is associated with a 79% reduced crash risk.

STAR provides training for all levels of riders, taught by Idaho certified Instructors. Whether you have ridden thousands of miles, or have never even sat on a motorcycle, Idaho STAR has a course to fit your needs. STAR courses take place in a controlled, off-street environment and are designed to help you develop the physical skills as well as the mental strategies needed to successfully navigate today’s roadways.
