Idaho STAR offers a basic Sidecar/Trike training course for beginners - and a limited amount of rigs are provided!
The Sidecar/Trike Course (ST) is designed for new sidecar and trike enthusiasts - including reverse trikes, i.e., Can-Am Spyders.
Content: classroom and on-cycle instruction in the unique handling characteristics of three-wheelers in cornering, braking and swerving as well as development of street strategies and hazard response skills needed for safer riding
Duration: Approx. 17 hours. Course end times are approximate and may vary due to weather or other circumstances.
Provided: Sidecar outfits and a trike. Ride one of our three-wheelers or bring your own. Please let us know if you plan to bring your own as rigs are limited.
Requirements: See STAR gear requirements. A motorcycle permit or endorsement is not needed; however, a driver's license or permit is required.
Additional Information: Successful completion of this course will waive ITD's skills test requirement for a Three-Wheel Restricted Motorcycle Endorsement, if the endorsement is added within one year of passing the course. An "M" endorsement for motorcycle operators will also allow you to operate a three-wheeled vehicle legally. Learn more here.
