2011 in Review
Courses Held...........252
Students Trained...2,548

Preliminary motorcycle crash data indicate that there were 17 motorcycle fatalities in 2011.

While this is certainly 17 too many, it is also 39% lower than the fatalities in 2010.  In fact, it is lower than it's been in many years.  Here are the numbers from 2006 - 2011 for comparison:

(2011 - preliminary data)

Let's all do our part to make this a trend and work toward the only number that is acceptable - ZERO!

ETV Interview - what does Idaho STAR do?

In June, ETV came out to talk to us about Idaho STAR courses.  Here is that interview (a good summary of what we do).

What to do in 2012?
Idea #1: Give the Gift of Safety (to a loved one, or even to yourself!)

Fifteen years (1996-2010) of crash data tell us that Idaho STAR training is associated with a 79% reduced crash risk and an 89% reduction in the risk of a fatal crash. Fifteen years worth of course graduates tell us that the skills they learned at STAR helped them avoid a crash.  What better gift to give to the rider in your life than a gift certificate for an Idaho STAR Course?

2012 Gift Certificate

(Here's something you can write on the card)
"This gift certificate for a STAR course is my gift to you.  Your gift to me will be to take the course and be a safer rider.  I care about you and want you to come home after each and every ride!"

Our friendly staff can help you purchase a gift certificate for the person in your life.  We can even mail it directly to them if you like.

It's the gift that says - "What happens to you when you ride matters to me.  I want the best for you."

Idea #2: Spread the Message "Look Twice!"

As you may know, the Idaho STAR Program works not only on training riders, but on increasing motorist awareness (drivers seeing us on the roads).  In partnership with the Idaho Transportation Department, the Idaho Coalition for Motorcycle Safety, and Idaho State Police, we have these motorist awareness bumper stickers available for you to put on your car or truck.  There is no cost (yup - that's!)

Just call (888-280-7827 or 208-639-4540) or email ( the STAR office and we'll get them in the mail to you.

Idea #3: Gear up - it's about your hide

At the 2011 end of year training event we held for our Instructors, Brittany Morrow ("The Road Rash Queen") conducted a great session on the importance of riding gear.  She shared this video as a part of her presentation.  Brittany speaks from personal experience about what happens when skin meets asphalt.
We don't want any rider or their family members to have to go through what she and her family went through.  Watch the video and feel free to share it with others.

Ride Safe, and Happy New Year!
