Valentine's Day Gift: Safety Promises

We all have loved ones who get worried about us when we ride. Maybe it’s a spouse, boyfriend/girlfriend, parents, children, or someone else. Here is an idea for an additional Valentine’s gift for the loved ones in your life: a safety promise.

Promises, followed by actions, are a powerful and effective way to show how much you care.

A safety promise might look something like this:

  • “Riding my motorcycle is a big part of my life and I know that you worry about my safety when I ride. I get it – I understand your worries and concerns and I do take them seriously. We both know that there are certain risks involved in riding. So, as my Valentine’s present to you this year, I promise to…”
…and this is where you fill in the blank with a promise that will show them that you are committed to preventing and surviving the crash. How you fill in that blank is up to you – we encourage you to make it something meaningful to the other person. Here are a few ideas:
  • …always ride sober
  • …practice my emergency braking skills every month
  • …wear my riding jacket and gloves on every ride
  • …wear my helmet on every ride (even just going across town)
  • …take a motorcycle training class
  • …and there are many others that can work for you and your loved ones.

**NOTE: This gift makes a nice ‘add-on’ gift to whatever else you were already getting them. Please DO NOT make this the only gift you get for a loved one and then say “Ax said to just get you this.”

Ride safe!
