New Curriculum Enhancements in 2018

Posted On March 21st, 2017

Idaho STAR is excited to announce the launch of three significant curriculum enhancements in 2018! This season, Idaho STAR will roll out an online classroom for the Basic I and Basic II courses. This new platform is called eRiderTM and will be available in early April. Also coming this spring is an all-new, redesigned Experienced Course classroom, and by mid-summer, Idaho STAR will be offering a novice-level three-wheel course.

eRiderTM

eRiderTM Basic classroom is an option that allows students to study at home at their own pace and eliminate on-site classroom hours. The completely online classroom is highly interactive, using video and other features to address risk management, riding gear, riding strategy, roadway management, impairments and special riding situations like carrying passengers and group riding.

This course covers the same need-to-know content but adds powerful interactive features like video scenarios to practice situational awareness, hazard identification and decision making.

The eRiderTM option will be available for select Basic I and Basic II courses at various training locations with registration beginning in March. The first riding sessions for the eRiderTM courses will be in April.

Experienced Course

Over the past many months, the Idaho STAR staff has been revamping its Experienced Course classroom content and delivery platform. In this completely refreshed classroom, students will enjoy a more interactive, student-centered learning experience. Riders will have the opportunity share their own knowledge, skills and experiences for an engaging class dynamic. The course content is designed for the experienced rider in mind and focuses on the critical thinking skills needed for making smarter choices to get the most enjoyment out of riding.

The all-new Experienced Course classroom will be part of the course from the beginning of the 2018 training season. Registration for the Experienced Course begins Thursday, February 1st with the first class being offered in Nampa on March 17th. Courses are available statewide beginning in April and running through October in many locations.

Novice Sidecar/Trike Course

Since 2009, Idaho STAR has offered an advanced three-wheel course, the Sidecar/Trike Course. This class has been very popular among three-wheel enthusiasts, including trike and Can-Am Spyder riders. In this advanced-level course, students are required to bring their own three-wheel rigs and they are expected to understand the fundamentals of operating their three-wheeler. In an effort to expand the three-wheel program, Idaho STAR will be offering a basic three-wheel course.

Idaho STAR has teamed up with BRP Can-Am to offer Spyder training rigs to riders who do not own their own three-wheelers. Additionally, students can learn how to operate a sidecar outfit on a program-provided training rig. This course will start with the very basics of vehicle operation and build to the more advanced street skills currently taught in the level II Sidecar/Trike Course.

This Sidecar/Trike I Course opens up the possibilities for many riders who may or may not have previous two-wheel motorcycle experience. Sidecar/Trike I students do not have to be experienced riders or bring their own three-wheelers.

The Sidecar/Trike I Course will be available as soon as loaner Spyders are delivered and program-owned sidecars and trikes are assembled – our goal is to launch before mid-summer!
